Among the volunteers out there to cheer for the Paralympians in Beijing, there is a special squad composed entirely of air hostesses from Air China. The Golden Pheonix Cheerleading Squad, as it is called, was established on July 18, 2008. Under the leadership of Liu Yanan, the squad will interact with spectators from all over the world and applaud the 4,000-odd athletes during the Paralympic Games.
To better serve the Paralympics, the hostesses make a point of catching up on the necessary knowledge of protocols and service skills for the Games, including a smattering of psychology concerning the disabled. “When communicating with the handicapped, we are supposed to treat them the same as anyone else,” Liu said.
