On August 20, Usain Bolt of Jamaica finished the men's 200-meter sprint in 19.30 seconds to break Michael Johnson’s 12-year-old world record. During the race, he was wearing smile wristlets on both wrists. “I gave him the yellow one as a gift when he came to work out at the warm-up field of the Bird’s Nest on August 9,” said Li Hongtao, a volunteer on the spot.
Li, a student from the Beijing Sport University, served the athletes at a warm-up field at the northern side of the National Stadium during the Olympics. According to him, he did not know much about Bolt, and he sent one of his wristlets to Bolt as a token of good wishes. "I noticed that he always wore a yellow jersey, so I sent him the yellow wristlet,” he said. “He put it on right away, and kept wearing it every time he turned up for his training session."
