The volunteers for the marathon event were the last volunteer team to come into action during the Beijing Olympic Games. They started preparation on the morning of August 16 in order to better serve the women’s marathon to be held the following morning.
At ten on August 16, the team started game-time service following the images-and-views volunteers’ entrance into Tian’anmen Square -- the starting point of the event. At 2:00 am on August 17, the 183 members of the team arrived at the square one after another. An hour later, 277 competition organizing volunteers arrived from the national stadium to begin preparation as well.
During the women’s marathon of the Beijing Olympic Games, volunteers installed 22 heatstroke-prevention and supply stations by the race track, including eight drinking water station, seven water depots and seven sprinkling facilities. In addition, volunteers were also posted as assistant referees or mileage signboard supervisors.
